Birth of the Movement

We have now been on the move for cleaner air for just over a month.

In that month, we’ve…

  • Featured in 167 press articles
  • Been backed by 347 people on Crowdfunder
  • Had over 1,850 people follow us on social media
  • Recruited 9,340 CleanSpace members
  • Saved almost 14,000 kg of CO2
  • Travelled 28,600 CleanMiles
  • Received £86,911 worth of pledges for CleanSpace Tags to seed the network

…Not too shabby, eh?

But, that’s just the start.

As you may have already seen, we have BIG ambitions. We want to reduce air pollution on a global scale – so, naturally, this takes a LOT of manpower. So we need each and every one of you to help us get there, to help us to be able to say one day in the future that WE, the CleanSpace movement, have improved the air we breathe.

We recognise that in order for us to be successful, we need to play our part too – and that means ensuring the CleanSpace experience is the best that it can be for our members – from the App to the Tags all the way to our choice of emojis in our tweets. That is why your feedback in these early stages has been hugely appreciated. We are working around the clock, constantly listening to you, making tweaks, updating the website, squashing bugs and testing the journey engine by walking, running and cycling around the block 352,703* times, until we get it right.

Naturally, as a start-up, the first month has seen ups and downs. We are aware that the app can use a more than ideal chunk of battery on certain devices – this is something that we are working tirelessly to fix – it’s our no.1 priority in fact! So, make sure you keep an eye out for the next App update as we’re hoping you’ll see a big improvement. In the meantime, please slide the button in the middle of the Home Screen to switch off tracking when you’re not travelling. This will help to conserve your battery.

We have also noticed that the journey engine in the App can sometimes wrongly predict how you travelled – i.e. if you’re a fast road cyclist, the App may occasionally think you’re driving. The good news is that we use machine learning software – it’s constantly being educated, getting better and better at correctly predicting journeys. So the more you use it, the more accurate the journey predictions will become, and the more CleanMiles you’ll clock up.  In the meantime, keeping your phone in your pocket should help to improve the journey tracking accuracy.

Thanks for your support. We know it’s a cliché, but without you, none of this world-saving, air-cleaning, movement-building would be possible.

The CleanSpace Team.
